E-petition to preserve and protect workers’ comp

Sep 24, 2012

Every year more than 100,000 Queensland workers are injured at work or have a work-related illness.  Workers’ comp is there to help.

But Queensland’s nation-leading workers’ compensation scheme is at risk. We need your help to preserve and protect it.

The Queensland government is currently reviewing workers’ compensation. Similar reviews in southern states have slashed protections and limited coverage.

Sign this e-petition to protect and preserve workers’ compensation.

Queensland’s workers’ compensation scheme is fully funded and operates at no cost to government.  Here are some more facts:

  • It covers all employees
  • More than 98% of injured workers return to work
  • Employers pay low premiums
  • You are covered for journeys to and from work
  • Workers can take negligent employers to court to pursue damages.

Workers and bosses agree that our system works well.
It’s now at risk. The Queensland government has already slashed jobs and community services.   Don’t let this happen to workers’ comp.

The issue of workers’ compensation is a strong representation of what the Stand for Queensland campaign is all about. Through Stand for Queensland you are part of the Queensland union movement’s campaign to build a better state for everyone.

This is the first action we’re asking you take as part of this campaign. It’s also one of the most important actions you’ll take in this campaign. If you’ve taken lots of our online actions before, don’t miss this one. If you’ve never taken one, this is the one you should take!
